We
Build Great Smiles
Welcome to the website of the New Zealand Association of
Orthodontists.
Orthodontics is a specialist area of dentistry concerned with improving the appearance, function, and stability of the teeth and jaws by straightening the teeth and correcting the
bite.
Orthodontists are dentists who have undertaken further 2 ? 3 years post-graduate university training in orthodontics. Once this additional training Is completed these dentists are then eligible to be registered as Orthodontic Specialists.
Some general dentists have a particular interest in orthodontics. They are not specialists but may undertake some simple orthodontic
treatment.
If you have any doubt as to the severity of an orthodontic problem you should seek the opinion of an Orthodontist or ask your dentist or dental therapist for a referral.
There are 71 orthodontists practicing in New Zealand. Almost all are members of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists and the New Zealand Dental Association, and work within strict Codes of Practice, which ensures quality advice and service. Many orthodontists travel to provincial areas, providing most New Zealanders with access to Specialist Orthodontic care.
New Zealand orthodontists are proud of the services they provide and are held in very high regard throughout the world.
Please make use of this site. The site directory will help you to find an Orthodontist in your area. The answers to commonly asked orthodontic questions have been provided and if you have other queries then please contact the secretary of the Association using our online contact form.
