Professor Mei is a Professor and Clinical Supervisor at the University of Otago, where he teaches and supervises both postgraduate and undergraduate dental students. His strong academic involvement ensures that his clinical practice consistently reflects the latest evidence-based techniques, research, and innovations in modern orthodontics. He is an experienced Orthodontist with an international background in specialist orthodontic care. He completed his postgraduate training at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and the West China School of Stomatology at Sichuan University. After working in the Netherlands for four years, Professor Mei relocated to New Zealand in 2012.
Professor Mei is an active member of leading professional organisations, including the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO), New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA), Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) Board of Studies, European Orthodontic Society (EOS), American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), and the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO). He has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals, serves as an examiner for multiple Australian and European universities, and has received several prestigious national and international awards, including honours from the European Orthodontic Society (EOS) and the International Association of Dental Research (IADR).
Professor Mei has more than 20 years of specialist orthodontic experience. He is an authorised provider of Invisalign, Incognito, and AngelAlign systems. As a well-regarded Dunedin orthodontist, he offers a full range of orthodontic care, including traditional braces, clear aesthetic braces, clear aligners, Invisalign, and customised hidden braces.
